What Affects the Price of a Vue Ticket?
Not all Vue tickets cost the same. Several things can change the price:
- Location — London and big cities cost more than smaller towns.
- Time of day — evening and weekend shows are pricier.
- Day of week — Monday to Thursday is usually cheaper.
- Seat type — standard, recliner, or Ultra Lux.
- Film format — 3D, IMAX, or special screenings cost extra.
- Booking channel — online usually adds a small booking fee.
How to Get Cheap Vue Tickets
1. Book Off-Peak
Weekday mornings and afternoons are the cheapest times. Some Vue cinemas drop prices by £3–£4 for shows before 5pm.
2. Use Student Discount
Vue offers student tickets at most sites. You will need a valid student ID or an app like UNiDAYS or Student Beans. Prices are usually 20–30% cheaper.
3. NHS and Blue Light Discounts
Some Vue sites offer discounts for NHS workers and Blue Light Card holders. Check your local cinema page.
4. Meerkat Movies
If you have a Compare the Market insurance product, you can get 2-for-1 cinema tickets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Vue participates in this scheme.
5. Use Discount Codes
Vue often releases promo codes through email newsletters and social media. For a full list of current ways to save, see our guide to Vue discount codes and vouchers.
6. Sign Up for Vue Emails
Vue sends welcome offers and birthday discounts to subscribers. It only takes a minute to sign up.
7. Try a Membership
If you go to the cinema often, a Vue membership can pay for itself in 2–3 visits. It gives you discounted tickets plus member-only screenings.
Standard vs Recliner vs Ultra Lux — Is It Worth Upgrading?
Here is a quick comparison:
| Seat Type | Extra Cost | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Base price | Quick trips, budgets |
| Recliner | +£3 to £5 | Long films, comfort |
| Ultra Lux | +£5 to £8 | Date nights, premium feel |
If you’re seeing a 2.5-hour movie or you have back pain, a recliner is worth it. Ultra Lux is a nice treat but not essential. To understand exactly what each seat gives you, read our full breakdown of Vue Laser, Ultra Lux, and VIP seats.
Are Vue Tickets Cheaper Online or at the Cinema?
Online tickets often include a booking fee of around 90p per ticket. However, online booking gives you:
- Guaranteed seats
- Choice of seat in advance
- Discount code use
- Faster entry (no queue)
If you don’t care about seat choice, buying at the desk can sometimes be slightly cheaper because there’s no booking fee. But if you want a specific seat or you’re going on a busy night, online is better.
Do Vue Prices Change by Day?
Yes. Vue uses dynamic pricing, which means ticket prices can go up or down based on demand. Here is a rough pattern:
| Day | Relative Price |
|---|---|
| Monday – Thursday | Cheapest |
| Friday | Medium |
| Saturday | Most expensive |
| Sunday | Medium |
Is Vue the Cheapest UK Cinema?
Not always, but it’s usually one of the cheapest. Vue tends to undercut Odeon and Cineworld, especially outside London. Independent cinemas and community screens can be cheaper still. To compare in more detail, check our full breakdown of Vue’s pricing on their official site.
