Vue Laser, Ultra Lux & VIP Seats Explained (2026 Guide)
If you’ve booked a Vue ticket recently, you might have seen confusing terms like “Vue Laser”, “Ultra Lux”, “VIP seats”, “Magic Seat Screening”, and “Runway Ready”. What do they all mean? In this guide from watch-fmovie.co.uk, we decode every Vue premium option so you can pick the best seat for your next film.
What Is Vue Laser?
Vue Laser is Vue’s own laser projection technology. It replaces the older bulb-based projectors with a laser light source. This gives you:
- Sharper and brighter images
- More vivid colours
- Better contrast (darker blacks, brighter whites)
- Clearer 3D without the usual dim look
- More consistent picture quality across the screen
Vue Laser is now in most Vue cinemas across the UK. It is especially worth it for action movies, sci-fi, and 3D films.
Is Vue Laser Worth Paying Extra For?
Usually yes, especially for big visual films like Dune, Avatar, or any Marvel release. The difference is noticeable. If you’re seeing a dialogue-heavy drama, the upgrade matters less.
What Is Ultra Lux at Vue?
Ultra Lux is Vue’s premium seat. It gives you:
- A wider, more padded chair
- Extra legroom
- Often a small side table for drinks and snacks
- Better placement in the auditorium
Ultra Lux usually costs £5–£8 more than a standard seat. It is great for date nights, long films, or just treating yourself.
What Is a VIP Seat at Vue?
“VIP seat” is often used loosely. At Vue, it usually means:
- An Ultra Lux seat, or
- A recliner seat, or
- A seat in the best central position
Basically, it’s a premium seat. The exact meaning depends on the cinema. Check the seat map before you book.
Standard vs Recliner vs Ultra Lux
| Feature | Standard | Recliner | Ultra Lux |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seat width | Normal | Wide | Wide |
| Legroom | Standard | Extra | Extra |
| Recline | No | Yes | Yes |
| Side table | No | Sometimes | Yes |
| Extra cost | Base | +£3–£5 | +£5–£8 |
What Is a Magic Seat Screening at Vue?
A “Magic Seat Screening” is a special family event. Kids’ films are shown with the lights slightly up, the sound slightly lower, and no trailers. It’s designed to be friendly for young children who might get restless. It’s similar to a “baby-friendly” or “autism-friendly” screening.
What Does “Runway Ready” Mean at Vue?
“Runway Ready” is a Vue term used for certain premium events — often tied to fashion, live events, or themed screenings. The exact meaning can vary by event. If you see it on a booking page, check the event details. It usually means a red-carpet style experience or a themed event.
What Does Open Captioned Mean at Vue?
An “open captioned” screening shows subtitles on the big screen for everyone in the room. This is different from closed captions (which only appear on a personal device). These screenings are great for deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers, or anyone who prefers subtitles.
If you want to know more about accessibility options, we cover this in another post. You can also check the Vue website for specific dates.
Which Seat Should You Choose?
| Situation | Best Seat |
|---|---|
| Quick solo trip | Standard |
| Long film (2.5+ hrs) | Recliner |
| Date night | Ultra Lux |
| Family with kids | Recliner (or Magic Seat Screening) |
| Big blockbuster | Ultra Lux + Vue Laser |
| Back pain | Recliner or Ultra Lux |
How Much Extra Do Premium Seats Cost?
Premium seat prices vary by cinema. On average:
- Recliner: +£3 – £5 over standard
- Ultra Lux: +£5 – £8 over standard
- Vue Laser: often included in the ticket price (no extra charge)
For the full price list, read our guide to Vue Cinema ticket prices.
Are Premium Seats Worth It?
Yes, if you value comfort. If you’re a casual moviegoer who just wants to see the film, standard is fine. But if you go often, have back issues, or want a special night out, upgrading to recliner or Ultra Lux is worth the extra few pounds.
